Selection, typing and useful shortcuts

Recognise keyboard focus and use shortcuts in the right editing context.

Before using a shortcut, check where the cursor is. The keyboard may act on an active field, text on the page or the builder itself. These contexts are different.

1. Select or type

In Easy, click text to select it, then click again to edit it. When the text cursor is visible, you are typing in that text. Click Design to leave typing mode without replacing the words. For an element that is difficult to reach, use Layers in Expert.

A selected text element before entering typing mode.

2. Start with the buttons

Save, Undo and Redo are in the top bar. Their tooltips show shortcuts for your computer. On Mac: ⌘S, ⌘Z, ⇧⌘Z. On Windows: Ctrl+S, Ctrl+Z, Ctrl+Shift+Z; Ctrl+Y also redoes a change.

3. Take care while typing

Inside text or a field, ⌘Z / Ctrl+Z may undo typing in that field rather than a site change. Leave typing mode before undoing a structural operation. Check the result after each undo. ⌘A / Ctrl+A selects the contents of the active field: check the target before using it.

4. Find a setting

The Filter… field in the Expert panel searches for a setting. It also displays CMD+S / CTRL+S. Depending on context, this indication may compete with the Save shortcut. To save without ambiguity, use Save in the top bar. To search, click directly in Filter….

5. Close a menu and check the view

Escape closes open menus. Display options, including preview and interface preferences, are available under Screen. Changing the working width does not, by itself, change the site's design. Avoid chaining shortcuts in a panel without checking your selection.
