Cookies, and everything that behaves like one

A cookie is a small file placed on your device by a website. The law treats local storage and session storage the same way, because they do the same job. This page covers all three, so nothing hides behind a technical word.

What is stored, one by one

Audience measurement on communik.io

Entries named _av, _as, _ael, _apc and _ast, written in your browser storage by our own analytics. They hold a random visitor identifier and the state of your current visit, so that two page views are not counted as two people. First party, no personal information, never shared, never used across other sites. The visit entries disappear when you close the tab; the visitor identifier stays until you clear the site data.

Sign-in on app.communik.io

A cookie named token, valid for seven days, which keeps your session open. It is strictly necessary: blocking it makes signing in impossible.

Icons

Entries prefixed with iconify, which cache the icons of the interface so they are not downloaded again on every page. They contain drawings, not data about you.

Chat

Crisp stores an identifier when you open a conversation, so that we can answer you and you can find the thread again. Nothing is stored if you never open the chat.

Payment

On the checkout pages, Stripe sets its own cookies for security and fraud prevention. They are governed by Stripe's own policy.

Why we do not ask for your consent

French and European rules exempt from consent what is strictly necessary to deliver a service you asked for, and audience measurement that stays within strict limits set by the CNIL: first party, used only to produce anonymous statistics, no cross-site tracking, no data passed to anyone else. Our measurement is built to stay inside those limits, which is why you are not greeted by a banner.

The day we add a tool that falls outside them, a consent request will appear before it loads, not after.

Taking control

Every browser lets you block or erase cookies and site storage, either globally or for one site, in its privacy settings. Deleting the entries for communik.io removes the visitor identifier and the icon cache with no consequence, beyond a slightly slower first page. Blocking the sign-in cookie, on the other hand, prevents you from using the editor at all.

Private browsing works too: everything described here is erased when you close the window.

Sites built with Communik

This page describes communik.io and the editor. On a website created by one of our users, the choice of trackers belongs to that user: they decide what is loaded and they publish their own cookie policy. Communik provides the consent tools, and by default a published site carries no advertising tracker.
