Connect Communik to Claude, ChatGPT and other AI assistants
The Communik connector lets an AI assistant work on your Communik sites from a conversation: read and edit pages, update the theme, manage modules such as bookings or documentation, and publish. It uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and works with Claude, ChatGPT and any MCP client that supports remote servers with OAuth.
What you need
- A Communik account with at least one site. The assistant only sees the sites your account can access.
- An AI assistant that accepts remote MCP connectors: Claude (web, desktop, mobile, Claude Code), ChatGPT, or another MCP client.
Connect your assistant
- Open the Communik page in the Claude directory and click Connect. In Claude, you can also find it under Settings > Connectors > Browse connectors by searching for Communik.
- Sign in to Communik in the window that opens and approve access.
- In a conversation, check that Communik is enabled in the tools menu, then ask for what you need.
The connector follows your Claude account: once added, it works on Claude web, desktop and mobile.
Communik is under review for the ChatGPT app directory. Until it is listed, add it in developer mode:
- In ChatGPT, open Settings > Apps & Connectors > Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode.
- Back in Apps & Connectors, choose Create, name it Communik, enter
https://api.communik.io/mcpand select OAuth authentication. - Sign in to Communik and approve access.
Run:
claude mcp add --transport http communik https://api.communik.io/mcp
Then type /mcp and follow the sign-in link.
Sign-in and permissions
The connector uses OAuth 2.1: you sign in on Communik, and the assistant receives a token limited to the MCP scope. It never sees your password. Every action runs with your account rights: a site you are not a member of stays out of reach, and actions that commit the site owner (for example connecting a custom domain) are limited to the owner.
To disconnect, remove the connector in your assistant. Tokens that are no longer used expire and are purged.
What the assistant can do
The connector declares a small set of everyday tools and gives access to the rest through a catalog, so your conversation is not filled with hundreds of tool definitions.
| Area | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Sites and pages | List your sites, read pages and blocks, edit text and HTML, create pages, search and replace across a site |
| Design | Read and update the theme (colors, fonts), capture a screenshot of a published page |
| Content | Collections and their rows, site texts in every language, images from a URL |
| Modules | See which modules a site runs and install one. Installed modules bring their own tools: bookings (booking_*), forum (forum_*), members (member_*), documentation (docs_*) |
| Publishing | Publish to the private staging preview, or to production when you ask for it |
| History | list_changes lists recent changes, undo_change restores the previous state |
| Discovery | list_all_tools lists the catalog, describe_tool gives the parameters of a tool, run_tool runs it |
Each tool is annotated: read-only tools are marked as such, and tools that delete data or make content public are marked so your assistant can ask for confirmation.
Undo a change
Every change made through the connector saves the previous state. For 30 days (up to the last 500 changes per site), you can ask the assistant to undo it, or undo it from the History panel of the editor. If someone has edited the same element since, Communik keeps their work and tells you what conflicts instead of overwriting it.
Examples
- "List my Communik sites and tell me which ones are not published yet."
- "On my bakery site, rewrite the home page introduction to mention our new opening hours, then publish to staging."
- "Change the primary color of my site to dark green and show me a screenshot of the home page."
- "Create a documentation article called 'Getting started' in the Guides section, in English and French, and publish both."
- "Which booking services does my salon offer, and what are their prices?"
- "Undo your last change on the home page."
Staging and production
publish_site publishes to staging by default. Publishing to production puts the site live for everyone; the assistant does this only when you ask for it.
Limits
- 120 requests per minute per account.
- Large results are paginated or truncated; ask for the next page when a list is cut.
- File uploads from your computer, payment refunds and switching payments to live mode are not available through the connector.
Troubleshooting
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
MODULE_NOT_INSTALLED |
The tool belongs to a module that the site does not run. Ask the assistant to install it, or install it from the editor. |
PROJECT_NOT_AUTHORIZED |
Your account is not a member of that site. Ask the owner to share it with you. |
| "This preview is protected" | The token was removed from the staging address. Use the full link returned by the assistant. |
| The assistant cannot find a tool | Ask it to search the catalog with list_all_tools. |
Privacy and support
The AI connector privacy policy describes what the connector receives, stores and shares, and how long it is kept. The general privacy policy applies to your Communik account.
