The checklist

What your website
must contain.

The sections that actually bring in enquiries, and the ones you can skip.

A phone number answered day and night

Visible on every screen, a tap away on a phone.

The four moments after a death

Call, care of the deceased, meeting, support afterwards.

The documents to gather for the meeting

Identity, death certificate, written wishes, plot deed.

Cremation and burial, both described

Including what the law allows for the ashes.

Funeral rooms and visiting hours

Where close ones can come and say goodbye.

Funeral contracts, explained without pressure

Wishes written down and funding planned, with time to read.

01Budget

What it really
costs.

Real figures, including what you pay elsewhere and what you no longer pay here.

Writing the funeral home's site

Choosing a design, describing your services, your rooms and your monument workshop, and reading the result in the preview is free of charge, and no card number is requested.

On your own domain

Publishing costs €14 excl. VAT a month, invoiced once a year, and covers hosting and the security certificate. Modules for questions, family messages and a blog can be added when you need them.

What the site does not replace

Your prefecture licence, the diplomas of your funeral advisors, your model quotes filed at the town hall, your ORIAS registration, and the calm voice of whoever answers the phone at night.

02To avoid

The mistakes that
cost you clients.

Seen on hundreds of sites in this trade, and each one is cheap to fix.

A promotion or a price comparison on the home page

It shocks the family that has just lost someone.

A phone number hidden in a contact page

At three in the morning, nobody looks for it.

A coffin photographed as the main image

Flowers, an alley or hands say enough.

No word on the free choice of operator

Families who learn it later feel misled.

Model quotes nowhere to be found

A legal duty that careful families check.

Families rarely choose a funeral home in advance. They search in the hours after a death, on a phone, often late, and they call the first business that seems reachable and calm. Some type funeral home + the name of their town, others cremation near me, and a few, more prepared, look for a funeral contract for themselves. The site has to serve all of them without ever sounding like a shop.

Someone has just died: what should the first screen say?

Three things, and nothing else at first: a phone number, the words day and night, and one sentence telling the family they will be guided. Everything else can wait below. Then describe the first hours in order: you call, the funeral home takes care of the deceased, a meeting is held at the agency or at home to organise the ceremony, and the advisor stays reachable afterwards. A relative who reads that sequence knows what will happen, and that alone eases the call.

Being transparent about prices without talking about money

A funeral home website should not display tariffs on its home page, but it must say how prices are given: in a detailed written quote, free of charge, on the regulatory model, with what is compulsory kept apart from what is optional. Say also that your model quotes are filed at the town hall and that the law asks you to publish them. These words do more for trust than any reassuring slogan, and they are exactly what a careful family checks when comparing two funeral homes.

A funeral home website that respects the people reading it

The five designs of the module were drawn for that situation: a narrow column like an engraved stone, a cream card with a mauve border, a practical guide in numbered chapters, arched windows for families who choose cremation and civil ceremonies, and a family letterhead in deep green and brass. None of them uses religious symbols by default, none shows a coffin in the main image, and all keep the phone number within reach on a small screen.

Funeral contracts, monuments and the questions that come later

The other visitors are calmer. A retired couple wants to write down their wishes; a widow, months later, needs a headstone; a son wonders what to do with his father's funeral contract. Give each service its own page: organising the funeral, ceremonies, cremation, funeral rooms, monuments and vaults, funeral contracts, paperwork after a death. Explain that a funeral contract is an insurance contract and that you offer it as an intermediary registered with ORIAS. Each page then answers a precise search, in its own words.

The villages you serve, written where families will see them

Deaths happen in the town and in every village around it, and families search with the name of the place they are in. List the towns you serve in your footer and on your service pages, mention the crematorium and the cemeteries you work with, and say whether you travel to the hospital or the care home. A family in a neighbouring village then recognises its own surroundings and knows you will come.

Choose the design that resembles your house, type its name above, and read the site as a family would on the night they need you.

Questions

Before you start.
Everything else, just ask.

What people ask before they get going.

Does the site push families to call one operator rather than another?

No. Every design reminds visitors that they are free to choose their funeral operator, even after a death in a hospital or care home, and that nobody may solicit them. That honesty is what builds trust.

Where does my prefecture licence number go?

It appears in the footer of every page, as it does on your documents. The module leaves it to complete, so that no number is ever invented.

The law asks me to publish my model quotes. Does the site do it?

The site states that your model quotes exist and are filed at the town hall. When you provide them, they can be added as a page or a downloadable document; nothing is generated in their place.

Can I present funeral contracts?

Yes, as one of your services. The text explains that a funeral contract is an insurance contract offered as an intermediary registered with ORIAS, without naming an insurer or promising a guarantee.

Is there a design without religious symbols?

All five are free of religious symbols: a carved stone, a mourning card, a practical guide, a memorial garden and a family letterhead. You add a cross, a crescent or a star where your families expect it.

Can families write to us instead of calling?

Yes, for a quote, a funeral contract or a monument. Above the form, every design reminds them that in case of a death it is better to call, since someone answers at any hour.
